Mental Health Research Update

The Brain and Mental Health Theme hosted their first Mental Health Research Update in May 2016. The seminar was held at the Queensland Brain Institute and showcased the latest mental health and neuroscience research from BDHP’s member organisations.

Neuroscience Collaborative Research Expo

BDHP was proud to support the Neuroscience Collaborative Research Expo in August 2016. The expo showcased advances in neuroscience research and provided an opportunity for biomedical and clinical researchers in this space to collaborate and build valuable relationships for future advances.

The event featured didactic lectures, an interactive panel discussion, poster displays and opportunities for networking amongst delegates. It culminated in a post event social function, including the announcement of the BICARE awards.


MRFF Great Expectations and sober realities

BDHP was offered the opportunity to support an Open Scientific Meeting as part of the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences AGM on Friday, 7 October. The meeting was to discuss whether the Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) will help to link bench to bedside. Presentations were given by BDHP leaders Professor Ian Frazer and Professor Robyn Ward. Brain and Mental Health Workshop

A group of key leaders from Metro North Hospital and Health Service and Metro South Hospital and Health Service have met to explore opportunities for joint hospital-community linkages and translational research in the Brain and Mental Health Theme. The facilitated workshop, held at the RBWH on 14 November 2016, looked at possible new shared projects that synergize existing projects, and aligning future projects to leverage state and commonwealth government policy directions. Theme Leader Professor John McGrath said he was impressed with the presentations from the health services and confident of exciting new opportunities arising in 2017.
